Each year, millions of people see the beginning of a new year as a fresh start. A chance for them to start changing their lives for the better. Most begin the year motivated to achieve their goals, but a few weeks down the road, fall back into the same bad habits.
If this sounds familiar, keep reading. We’re only a few days into 2020 so it’s not too late to set some goals for yourself and to figure out how to actually accomplish them.
Here’s how to ACTUALLY accomplish your goals in 2020.
1. Start by setting realistic and attainable goals
A common mistake people make when setting goals is making them too broad. Try making your goals more specific and reasonable by ensuring that there is a way to measure your progress.
Instead of having a goal like “spend less money” try “limit spending to $50 a week”. This gives you a way to easily measure your progress.
2. Write them down and put them somewhere visible
One way to do this is by writing your goals on a sticky note and placing them on your bathroom mirror or by writing them down in your daily planner. This helps to hold yourself accountable and remind yourself why you’re working towards this goal.

3. Think of small habits that you can perform to help you reach your goal
Breaking down your goals into small habits makes them much more manageable. Create a game plan. List out the steps that are going to get you where you want to be.
For example, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to eat healthier. Small ways I can achieve this is by choosing to drink water instead of pop or juice, or by snacking on fruit instead of candy.
4. Set a deadline and check in regularly
The reason why most people don’t accomplish their resolutions is because they don’t set a deadline. Setting a deadline allows you to measure your progress and to adjust your timeline accordingly.
Don’t forget to reward yourself along the way and remember – some progress is better than none at all.
